The inspiration for the series of NUDES was an actual dream of Lalita’s, and it all began with a dream about the famous artist “Matisse” and his iconic, lighthearted, brightly colored paintings of his home in Nice, France. Matisse frequently painted the views of his sitting room’s open French door window, with a vase of flowers and a gold fish bowl on a table and sometimes the sitting nude or figure that looked out to the sea.
Matisse inspired me to paint the first nude in the series that came to life on canvas as “I dreamed I Was A Bashful Model For Matisse”....and so on, until I dreamed my way immersed in the the working life of so many famous artists, such as Picasso, Gaugain, Van Gogh, Degas, Salvador Dali, Cezanne, just to name a few!
The FISH were painted by the insistence and persuasion of the artist’s husband. Color and more color was the answer to this idea, with portrait images of colorful tropical sea fish.
